Two HDB developments – Kampung Admiralty and The Pinnacle@Duxton – clinched three top awards at the Chicago-based Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) Annual Awards Programme 2019.
Held on 10 April in Shenzhen, the awards recognise individuals and projects with extraordinary contributions to the advancement of the urban environment, achieve sustainability at the highest and broadest level, and have the greatest effect on the people who use them each day.
Kampung Admiralty received two top awards, namely the Best Tall Building for Mixed-Use Function and the Urban Habitat: Single Site Scale.
Designed as a ‘vertical kampung’, the 11-storey project is the first-of-its-kind development in Singapore that integrates housing for seniors with a vast array of social, communal, healthcare, commercial and retail facilities.
Meanwhile, The Pinnacle@Duxton emerged as the winner of the 10-year category.
At 163m high, this public housing development was conferred the Best Tall Building (Asia and Australasia) award by the CTBUH just a year after it was completed in 2009.
Featuring 1,848 housing units in seven high-rise residential blocks, the development is connected by a series of skybridges and 500m-sky gardens on the 26th and 50th floors.
It also boasts a variety of façade elements like planter boxes, bay windows and balconies arranged in a circuit board-like pattern, adding to the distinctive look of the development.
“As the largest provider of housing in Singapore, HDB strives to build the best homes for our residents,” said Dr Cheong Koon Hean, CEO of HDB.
“Beyond well-designed flats, we also seek to provide Singaporeans with a high quality living environment that is green, liveable and sustainable. As we plan for the next phase of public housing, we will continue to push new frontiers in design, construction and technology – always with people at the centre.”
